Anime Style Abstract Watercolour Portrait of the Japanese Shinto Sun Goddess, Amaterasu.
This painting is one in a series of 4 abstract watercolour portraits of Amaterasu. Amaterasu is the Shinto Sun Goddess.
The portrait series is part of a larger work exploring Japanese culture and art through watercolour portraits.
I play between the abstract and figurative in my style which explores the ancients.
Amaterasu symbolises a great harvest. She is the goddess of the sun, and makes the rice grow. She's found within that warm sunshine, a relaxation found in your heart.
She is the sense that all is well, and the precursor to an abundant life.
I live in the forest, and see the way nature flows. It's magical. This mystical existence gives me a profound connection to the ancient world.
Out here it's obvious how celestial events affect us. The sun in particular. That warm body, a glowing knowing, gives us life.
We are made of that same star dust.
The original watercolour is painted on 5.8-inch by 8.3-inch (14.8 cm by 21 cm) thick 300 gsm watercolour paper, using professional grade watercolours mixed with holy well water.
While stocks last you can get a free limited edition print sample. The free print is A6 size, which is 4.1 x 5.8 inches (10.5 x 14.8 cm). Click below to get a free limited edition print and take this painting home today.
