HOW I CREATED SIX PAINTINGS IN TWO DAYS DESPITE LIVING OFF-GRID

I SURPRISED MYSELF.

I didn't expect that I could achieve the result that came from doing this.

How I created six paintings in two days.

So one of the challenges I face all the time is living off-grid makes things slower.

Often there isn't enough power, I have so many other things to do, and I got stuck with delays.

This makes things difficult when it comes to being an artist

because everything gets in the way of making art. I had a project to make cards for a shop.

I wanted to do it so fast that I could get the artwork into the shop like lightening against the mountains around me.

So I decided to do it in a batch.

Day one I did all the drawing. I breezed through each artwork in a single day.

It ended up two hours in total.

Day two I did the painting. For speed I rotated each painting layer. 

While other paintings dried, I worked on the next.

I also limited my palette and the amount of coats applied to each painting.

I wanted the style to be abstract, and the energy of the animal or plant to come through the paper.

The results pleased me.

I learned that I need a way to dry art while I work so I built a drying rack next to my mini auxiliary stove.

I enjoyed creating batches and I'll do it every time I create a new series.

This way of working is fun. It completely removed perfectionism which often holds me back.

Like I said before living off grid means that so many other things can get in the way of what you want to do.

Life can be like that sometimes.

So instead of getting bogged down with perfectionism I focused on bare essentials.

I needed to complete what I wanted to create.

TO RECAP

I brought it all together in a batch and rotated paintings and limited myself to what I could use and do.

The result is perfect.

I started giving out free prints and people loved the pieces.

It was an amazing chance to get my artwork out there and it happened fast.

I'd recommend it.

If you feel that perfectionism is stopping you from moving forward try to break it down.

Limit yourself and do it all in batches.
