EXPLORE THE ARTWORK

Watercolour number 6 Autumn 25 series is a vibrant watercolour painting. The piece has a combination of hot reds, yellows, and cool greens and blues. It's a sunny piece, perfect for warmer coloured wall spaces.

Part of a series of six paintings, this is the sixth and final piece in the series. The painting is of a pair of peony flowers. This charming botanical painting shows the two flowers in different stages of their life cycle. One is budding, waiting to unfurl it's petals. The other is open and greeting the sky with its wonderful bloom, which creates a wonderful feeling of springtime and summer magic.

The painting style is illustrative, abstract, and naive realism. There is motion in the marks. You can see the pencil through the brush strokes, and dashes of black and white ink give the piece a sense of dynamism that connects the flowers to the viewer.

The final original painting has a natural wax medium finish. The glaze gives the piece beautiful depth and a natural shine. I mounted the artwork on acid-free, archival mount board.

This watercolour is ready to hang on your wall. This painting comes with a magnetic float mount, and is so light, you'll find it easy to place it where you want it.

WATERCOLOUR NUMBER SIX, AUTUMN 25 SERIES, IS ABOUT ALERTNESS.

The painting shows two peonies, one is budding, and the other one is opening.

Flowers amaze me.

The species of flowers and plants are crucial to my work in the forest.

Biodiversity of wildflowers supports the whole food chain. So I work each season to ensure that the glade flowers are abundant.

Flowers grow to open to the sky. Their spirit unfolds towards the sun. Receptive to pollinators and pollen.

The unyielding opening is a metaphor.

Peonies have so many petals. So much to open up. So many layers.

They are relentless. It takes nothing to destroy them. Yet, despite that fragility and vulnerability, they continue.

They teach me not to close down in the face of pain.

When life feels difficult, I learn from flowers to keep opening my mind, heart, body, and spirit.

Then only good things come, even if I have to wait till summer.

The way I painted Watercolour 6 Autumn 25 Series was a multi-layered approach. I wanted to blend the abstract with the figurative to bring out the spirit of the animal.

To always be opening, reaching for the sun. That is what this painting is about.
