EXPLORE THE ARTWORK
Watercolour number 5 Autumn 25 series is a vibrant watercolour painting. The piece has a combination of hot reds, yellows, and cool greens and blues. It's a sunny piece, perfect for warmer coloured wall spaces.
Part of a series of six paintings, this is the fifth piece in the series. The painting is of a female roe deer. This charming deer painting shows the doe looking directly at the viewer, her ears and eyes open, which creates a strong sense of connection and magic.
The painting style is illustrative, abstract, and naive realism. There is motion in the marks. You can see the pencil through the brush strokes, and dashes of black and white ink give the piece a sense of energy that reflects the spirit of the deer.
The final original painting has a natural wax medium finish. The glaze gives the piece beautiful depth and a natural shine. I mounted the artwork on acid-free, archival mount board.
This watercolour is ready to hang on your wall. This painting comes with a magnetic float mount, and is so light, you'll find it easy to place it where you want it.

WATERCOLOUR NUMBER FIVE, AUTUMN 25 SERIES, IS ABOUT ALERTNESS.
The painting shows the awareness that I see in deer. They have a wild attention that sees, hears, and feels all.
Their ears are like satellite dishes. They spin wildly, often in opposing directions.
They come to graze outside the cabin a lot. It is a blessing to see them in the early mornings.
You will see them in some of my videos.
The reason that I work to support the forest is so that as many different animals as possible come to visit.
The glade, forest, and valley are incredible. All these animals and I share a unique space. They all inspire me in different ways.
When looking at deer, I see how aware they are. It's interesting because they are prey animals.
Many other animals hunt them. That knowledge of mortality and danger doesn't diminish their spirit. This is true in all the animals I spend time with.
It inspires me. Living this way is dangerous. Sometimes frustrating. For animals, even more so, because they are competing and often trying to eat each other.
Yet, it never breaks them, and I take inspiration from that.
They teach me to live more vividly. I wanted to capture that in this painting, and in my work.
That wild alertness, that energy which is so awake that it hits you in the face.
When I see deers I have to be quiet. Any single movement or noise I make turns all their attention to me. There is a split second where they notice and run.
You can see their spirit shining brightly in their eyes, ears, and the way they move.
It teaches me to live without fear.
The way I painted Watercolour 5 Autumn 25 Series was a multi-layered approach. I wanted to blend the abstract with the figurative to bring out the spirit of the animal.
I wanted to capture that connection. That's what this painting is about.
